Vandercook Lake 15, Concord 13: The Jayhawks won their first game of the season in a slugfest. Camren Lackey had four hits for the Jayhawks and knocked in five runs. Isaac O’Dell had a pair of hits for Concord (5-5).
Vandercook Lake 9, Concord 7: Connor Riddle had two hits for Vandercook (2-2) in the win. Concord was paced by Ross Weeks and Carter Arbuckle with two hits apiece.
Clinton 14, Napoleon 3: Grant Bradley struck out five batters on the mound for Napoleon High School (0-4).
Clinton 7, Napoleon 1: The Pirates and Redskins could only get four innings until darkness fell. Clinton scored five times in the fourth inning to break open a close game.
Western 10, Northwest 3: Western High School scored eight times in the fifth inning to pull out the win. Landon Heavy had a pair of hits and two RBIs for the Panthers. Northwest was led by Jaden Manser with a pair of hits.
Northwest 6, Western 3: The game went only four innings before darkness fell. It takes five innings for an official game.
Softball
Vandercook Lake 22, Concord 3: Vandercook Lake High School pounded out 20 hits in the win. Kate Leach recorded three hits and four RBIs for the Jayhawks. Riley Adams struck out six batters for Concord (2-6).
Vandercook Lake 19, Concord 1: The website www.gamechanger.com lists this as an uncompleted game between the two teams.
Northwest 6, Escanaba 4: The Mounties scored three times in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull out the win. Nevaeh Ingram struck out 14 batters for Northwest in the win. Grace Pilaczynski had two hits and knocked in two runs for Northwest (3-0).
Track and Field
Napoleon Invitational: Ida High School won both events at Napoleon High School. Ida won the girls’ event with 156 points, Napoleon placed third with 137.5, Michigan Center placed fifth with 54 points, and Columbia Central scored 32 points for seventh place. In the boys’ event, Ida scored 160.5, Napoleon finished fourth with 106.5, Michigan Center placed sixth with 64 points, and Columbia Central was seventh scoring 18 points. Local winners in the girls’ events were Ann Joseph of Napoleon who won the 800-meter run (2:39); the 400-meter relay team from Michigan Center consisting of Elizabeth Dowding, Elly Trefry, Evelyn Meyerink, and Jordyn Richardson (57.0); the 3,200-meter relay team from Napoleon with Madelyn Norman, Emily Smilowski, Katelyn Smilowski, and Ann Joseph (11:09); Chelsea Bamm of Napoleon won the shot put (32-7); and Katelyn Landa of Napoleon took first in the discus (89-2.5). In the boys’ events, Alex Darnell of Napoleon won the 800-meter run (2:14) and Ethan Prokos of Michigan Center took first in the 300-meter hurdles (45.3).
Boys’ golf
Coldwater Invitational: Justin Bunch shot a 77 and Colin Norton finished with an 80 at the Coldwater Cardinal Invitational. Bunch was third overall and Norton tied for seventh. Jackson finished ninth as a team with a four-man total of 374.
Girls’ tennis
Northwest 4, Onsted 1: Savannah Anderson and Kaitlyn Fairley had wins for Northwest at Nos. 1 and 2 singles respectively.
PGA Tour
Napoleon High School graduate Brian Stuard shot a 3-under-par 68 at the RBC Heritage Classic tournament on the PGA Tour Friday. He is 4-under for the tournament and is just one shot outside of the top 20 heading into action today.
