Alro Steel to acquire Access Metals

Alro Steel has entered into an agreement to acquire certain assets of Access Metals in Baltimore, Maryland, on September 30, 2022. Founded in 2006 by Yolanda Drenner, Access Metals is a service center specializing in small orders with quick and competitive service to customers in manufacturing, machining, and fabricating. This purchase will allow Alro to grow our customer base in the eastern United States while providing improved service for cut-to-size metals.

“I’m pleased to announce that, effective September 30, 2022, ownership of Access Metals will transfer to Alro Steel. It’s a well-established, family-owned business, founded in 1948. Alro shares my philosophy to exceed customer expectations through superior service and teamwork.” said Yolanda Drenner, Access Metals.

TRUE Community Credit Union Breaks Ground at New Branch Location

 

TRUE Community Credit Union broke ground Thursday for its newest branch, located at 1309 W Parnall Rd. in Jackson. The new stand-alone site will be 2,570 square feet in size and will be the new home of the Country Market branch.

Speakers at the ceremony included TRUE Community Credit Union President and CEO Chrissy Siders, Chief Experience Officer Sarah Ermatinger, and Board Chairman Quentin Guinn.

“We are so excited to expand our footprint by relocating our Country Market branch a hop, skip, and a jump down the road to our new Parnall Road location,” said Siders. “This expansion will allow us to provide expanded products and services to our loyal members, including a bigger and better branch, conveniently located with enhanced technology to meet our members’ needs.”

In addition to the current branch features members have, the new Parnall Road branch will offer enhanced technology to make it more accessible to members, including four video drive-thru tellers. Members can use the video tellers to communicate with a TRUE Community Credit Union teller via video during business hours, and can also be used as ATMs 24 hours a day. TRUE Community Credit Union plans to open the new location in 2023.

TRUE Community Credit Union has 12 branch locations in Jackson, Ingham, and Washtenaw counties and welcomes members who live, work, worship, or attend school in Michigan.

American 1 Credit Union Holds 72nd Annual Meeting

American 1 Credit Union elected multiple officer positions during its 72nd Annual Meeting on Thursday, August 18, at American 1’s newly renovated Home Office Branch.

Those elected during the meeting included Philip E. Hoffman as Board Chair, Frank Weathers as Board Vice Chair, Julie Alexander as Board Treasurer, and Angella Arnold as Board Secretary.

Also, Directors Linda Schaub, Cheryl Schantz, and Tim Hernandez will continue their service on the American 1 Board of Directors.

“The primary job of our board of directors is to look out for our members’ interests. Having a board that represents the diversity of our membership is important to us,” American 1 President and CEO Martha Fuerstenau said. “We are thankful for the American 1 Board of Directors who are selfless volunteers dedicated to the credit union and our membership.”

Nominations Sought for King Medal of Service Awards

Do you know someone who has gone above and beyond in service to their community? Nominate them today for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Medal of Service Award!

Jackson College is now accepting nominations for the King Service Award for 2023, which honors individuals and organizations who give time, talent, and resources to make our community a better place. The award recognizes community service and devotion to King’s ideals in Jackson County. Medals will be awarded during the Jackson College King Celebration in January.

Applications are currently available online at https://forms.office.com/r/zV5cL9cK94. The deadline to submit the application is Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022. The award criteria recognize those who are committed to carrying out the dream of Dr. King in several areas:

·        Belief in the basic tenets of cultural and ethnic diversity;

·        Giving back to the community through volunteerism and service;

·        Support and promotion of educational opportunities for underrepresented populations in Jackson County;

·        Promoting financial opportunities for poorer citizens of Jackson County;

·        Guiding youth and offering opportunities for social and moral development, giving them tools to interact socially with the broader culture; and,

·        Working toward a safe community and reduction of crime in Jackson County.

Recent winners of the award include Monica Pierce (2022), Benny Poole (2021), Arlene Robinson (2020), Harold White Jr. (2019), and Alan Wade (2018).

Middle School at Parkside Welcomes Destiney Davis as New Assistant Principal

Jackson Public Schools is pleased to announce Miss Destiney Davis as the new Assistant Principal at Middle School at Parkside.

Miss Davis received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in French & Francophone Studies and History from the University of Michigan in 2012. After deciding teaching was going to be her passion she returned to the University of Michigan and received her Master of Arts Degree in Secondary Education in 2014. In 2022, she completed her Administrator Certificate from Eastern Michigan University.

Miss Davis has been a part of the Viking family since 2015 as the French Teacher at Middle School at Parkside. During her time, she has led the French Exchange Program, the World Language Department, as well as leading Parkside’s After School Program and Summer School Program.

“Over the past seven years I have had the immense pleasure of working with the staff and students in Jackson Public Schools” said Miss Davis. “I am a proud member of the Jackson Community and look forward to building community with our staff and our students in my new role as Assistant Principal at Middle School at Parkside. This is where I feel I belong and I am excited to continue my work with our students in helping them achieve greatness.”

Mr. Jeremy Patterson, Assistant Superintendent, Secondary Curriculum commented on the hire by stating, “We are excited for Destiney to begin her administration career at Parkside. She has gone above and beyond as a teacher leader to prepare herself for this opportunity. Her commitment to the district is evident in her actions over the past seven years. Destiney Davis embodies the slogan “Believe the Hype” as she is all in for Jackson Public Schools!”

2022 Citizens Police Academy Seeks Applicants

Jackson County citizens have the opportunity to learn about: 

  • Police Patrol Operations 
  • Investigations and how they work 
  • K9 Demonstrations 
  • Special Response Team operations
  • and you can take a Ride-a-Long
  • and so much more 

The ideal attendee is: 

– A current Jackson County resident 

– Who has an interest in learning more about Police work 

– Perhaps a young adult who is considering entering this field 

– Perhaps a retired individual who wants to better understand the work, and how they can be part of building community support 

– A parent who wants to better understand the profession

– A professional who needs some extra curricular study opportunities 

– or just a caring citizen who wants to know what we do and how we do it 

This is an annual free seminar that is offered to our citizens by the Jackson County Sheriff department and the Jackson Police Department.
