The City of Jackson Parks and Recreation Commission is seeking community involvement in its new 2020 Parks and Recreation Master Plan. The first meeting of the Master Plan process is taking place on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 4 p.m. in the Ella Sharp Park Golf Couse Club House, 3225 Fourth Street in Jackson.
At the first meeting, the Parks and Recreation Commission will review the results of the recent Parks and Recreation Community Survey and present the preliminary 2020 Master Plan. Following the Nov. 20 meeting, there will be a 30 day public review period where residents can review the preliminary plan and give feedback. After the review period has closed, the commission will hold a second meeting at the golf course on Monday, Jan. 6, 2020 at 4 p.m. to finalize the Master Plan and submit it to the Jackson City Council for approval.
Parks and Recreation Department Director Kelli Hoover says past Master Plans have made big impacts in her department. “New recreation activities such as a disc golf course and more pedestrian trails were identified as offerings residents wanted in previous Master Plans. In recent years, we’ve seen both of those requests come to fruition in Jackson. This process is a great way for residents to help us improve our parks and recreation offerings for everyone in the City,” Hoover said.
A preliminary Master Plan will be available for review starting Thursday, Dec. 5. It will be available online on the City’s website, the Region 2 Planning Commission website, and in person on the 5th Floor of Jackson City Hall, Boos Community Center, Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, and the Carnegie Branch of the Jackson District Library. Comments on the preliminary plan should be submitted to recreation@cityofjackson.org.
