(July 31, 2023 2:03 PM ET) The City of Jackson announced the community’s National Night Out celebration is planned for Tuesday, Aug. 1. in Loomis Park from 6-8 p.m.  The event gives residents an opportunity to strengthen bonds with fellow neighbors and public safety as part of a nationwide program.

National Night Out aims to bring residents, police officers and firefighters closer together through fun-filled events. Jackson’s occasion will feature games, prizes, face painting for kids, local vendors and a free bike raffle. Residents will have an opportunity to meet police officers and firefighters, along with getting an up close look at patrol cars, fire trucks and ambulances. It’s being organized by the Jackson Police Department, the City of Jackson Group Violence Intervention Program, and the B2 Watchers Neighborhood Group.

Ward 2 City Councilmember Freddie Dancy is helping organize the event and is looking forward to all that can be accomplished. “It’s important to provide an opportunity for our residents and public safety to come together and celebrate what unites us,” Councilmember Dancy said. “This event strengthens existing relationships and forms new bonds so we can continue to make Jackson a great place to live.”

The event is free to attend and open to all ages. Loomis Park is located at 210 Gilbert St.
