The American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life” raised over $370,000 during the two day event at the Cascades Falls Park August 5-6, 2016. This was the 25th anniversary of the Jackson Relay and organizers report the total raised thus far exceeds the original goal set earlier in the year. Over $300,000 was raised or pledged toward the Relay even before the event began through a variety of fundraisers held by Relay teams and volunteers.
At closing ceremonies Saturday evening, Catina Lowe from the American Cancer Society announced over 110 teams and over 1200 participants helped make the 2016 Relay a great success. Over 500 survivors participated and more than 3500 lumninaria were lit in honor and memory of cancer victims.
The theme this year, “Dr. Seuss-Jackson Hears A Cure” was celebrated with decorated tents and booths, along with games and attractions tied to the theme. Top team fundraisers leading up to the event included America’s Preferred Home Warranty, Team Eaton and Junk Yard Girls. Individual top fundraisers included Karyn Mericle, Kym Parker and Deborah Erke.
There will be a Team Relay wrap-up on August 17 at Alro Conference Center on August 17 at 5:30pm. Donations may be turned in at the wrap-up and final results and awards will be presented.
