(September 29, 2023 1:34 PM ET) The Jackson County Department of Transportation will be placing high friction surface treatment on various roads in Jackson County. Beginning on Monday, October 2, and Tuesday, October 3, 2023.

  • Mt. Hope Rd. at Seymour Rd. Waterloo Township
  • Cady Rd. at Norvell Rd. Norvell Township
  • Kimmel Rd. at Hague Ave. Summit Township
  • Liberty Rd. at S Jackson Rd. Liberty Township (will not affect the road closure at bridge)

According to Angela Kline, JCDOT Managing Director/ Director of Engineering, these intersections have had reported accidents of people sliding or not being able to stop at the intersection.  Kline said, “We are applying a course surface treatment, similar to a chip seal, that will increase the friction or stopping ability”.

The roads will remain open at all times with traffic being maintained by flaggers. The treatment process is expected to be completed by the end of day Tuesday, October 3, 2023. It is important to note that this project has been made possible by a safety grant awarded to JCDOT specifically intended to improve the safety of roadways. This grant is exclusively allocated for safety improvement and not for general road maintenance.
