(July 23, 2020 4:16 PM) The Jackson County Intermediate School District will be filling a vacancy on the Board of Education due to the recent resignation of Board Trustee Robert Inman, who is leaving for personal reasons.

Persons interested in the partial-year term, expiring June 30, 2021, appointment to the Board may submit letter of application to the district office at 6700 Browns Lake Road, Jackson, Michigan, no later than 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 6, 2020. Applicants should provide a brief biographical sketch and an explanation of reasons for interest in serving on the Board.  The remaining 4-years of Mr. Inman’s term, which expires on June 30, 2025, will be elected at the next regular Biennial Election on June 7, 2021.

Following a review of the submitted materials, the board will schedule interviews with the selected candidates. It is anticipated, interviews and possible appointment will be part of the regular board meeting Tuesday, August 11th. Qualifications/Limitations:  (M.C.L.A. 380.612, 380.614, 380.619 and JCISD Board Policy, Bylaws & Policies 0140-Membership)

Any qualified school elector of a constituent district is eligible for appointment or election to the immediate school district.

Not more than two (2) members of the Board may be from the same school district, unless the number of constituent districts will not allow the intermediate board seats to be filled with this restriction. (At this time, this restriction does not prohibit the appointment/election of an elector from any constituent district).

As of the 2005 election, no more than three (3) members of the intermediate board may also be serving on the board of a constituent district or public school academy.

The candidate may not have been removed from the intermediate board by action of the Governor within three (3) years of having been elected or appointed to the intermediate board.

The Michigan Constitution was amended in 2010 to make a person ineligible for election or appointment to any state or local elective office if the person was convicted of a felony involving dishonesty , deceit, fraud or a breach of the public trust within the preceding 20 years, and the conviction was related to the person’s official capacity while holding any elective office or position of employment in local, state, or federal government. Final candidates will be required to successfully pass a background investigation.
