(November 30, 2025 8:35 PM ET) Jackson District Library’s Henrietta Branch, located at 11744 Bunkerhill Road in Peasant Lake, will reopen to the public and begin regular hours 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, after undergoing extensive interior renovations.
JDL Board of Trustees voted in July to contract with R.W. Mercer Co., who began renovations Aug. 2. The $292,000 contract saw the Jackson-based contractor work to update and refresh the library with an entirely new interior including new flooring, lighting , furniture, shelving, paint, and more.
The interior renovations this year come on the heels of updating the building’s exterior in 2024 with new siding and stonework, a new accessible ramp, and upgrades including a new light in the parking lot as well as a cement pad for outdoor programming.
Between the interior and exterior work done at the Henrietta Branch since the summer of 2024, roughly
$500,000 has been spent on the updates to the branch, including more than $60,000 from two Michigan Arts and Culture Council grants – one for the interior project and another for the exterior project.
“For several years, the Michigan Arts and Culture Council has been a big help financially for a number of our programs and events,” JDL Director Liz Breed said. “We’re so grateful they are supporting a capital project this year which has made it possible for us do a little more with this renovation than we otherwise would have been able to do.”
Originally, library officials expected the project to be complete and open back up to the public in early 2026, however contractors were able to finish the work faster than originally anticipated. Library officials hope to host a grand opening celebration at the Henrietta Branch sometime this spring, but wanted to open the branch back up to area residents as soon as possible, they said.
“After the extensive renovations to Henrietta’s exterior, we’re excited to follow through and finish the interior this year,” JDL Board President Stephen Rajzer said. “We are very grateful to have a strong partnership with Henrietta Township.”
