Jackson Public Schools announced Kelly Crum as the new Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Curriculum.
Crum is a graduate of Jackson High School, Class of 1987. After high school, she attended Jackson Community College, earning an associate degree in Corrections.
Following her graduation she attended Spring Arbor University, receiving her bachelor’s degree in sociology and her master’s degree in organizational leadership.
Crum worked as a health educator for Jackson Public Schools in 2000. In 2003 she began a career with Center for Family Health as a school-based health educator servicing Northeast and Jackson High School. Additionally she served as a cheer coach at Jackson High from 2003-2013.
Crum joined Jackson College in 2013 serving on the leadership team as the Chief Diversity Officer and Director of Diversity, Equity, and Belonging. It is here where her passion and advocacy for the work of Diversity, Equity, and inclusion evolved. Her purpose, commitment, and dedication have fostered a culture of excellence, respect, and transparency by appreciating differences. As a DEI practitioner, she takes pride in providing a culture of care, ensuring equitable access, being a resource and a voice for historically marginalized people.
Crum is married to husband, Derrick. She has two adult sons, Timothy (Davina) and Tre’ (Amarri), and six grandchildren.
“I am excited about the opportunity to come back home,” said Mrs. Crum. “JPS is where I received my foundation from so many who helped shape and mold me into who I am today. It is indeed coming full circle to have the opportunity to return to Jackson Public Schools and bring my experience to serve students, the JPS family, and my community.”
