The Jackson Police Department presented their Employee of the Year Awards at the JPD Annual Awards Ceremony earlier this month. Employees were recognized for their exemplary performance and commitment to serving the citizens of Jackson.  Special recognition was awarded to the 2018 Employees of Year.

  • Officer of the Year    Detective Richard Burkart
  • Reserve Officer of the Year    Reserve Officer Christopher Mizner
  • Civilian Employee of the Year    Records Management Supervisor KayCe Parsons

Richard (Rick) Burkart was hired as an officer with the Department in 2007.  He was promoted to the rank of Detective in 2017.  Rick was also selected as the Officer of the Year in 2014.  Receiving this honor twice, demonstrates his professionalism and work ethic.  Above and beyond his regular duties, Rick is a current member of the Special Response Team, has served on the Jackson Narcotics Enforcement Team, and is a firearms and use of force instructor.

Christopher Mizner began his career as a Reserve Officer in 2017.  Christopher volunteered over 75 hours towards special events and over 250 total in 2018, including his time partnering with an officer on patrol.  Christopher’s dedication to the Department and to the community in his first full year serving as a Reserve Officer is evident.  His effort has contributed to the collective success of the Reserve Program.

KayCe Parsons has worked for the Department since 2003.  KayCe’s attention to detail, her knowledge in nearly all the aspects of our department and her drive to hone her skills and talents has all worked toward the betterment of our department as a whole.  Her willingness to help out where needed and make changes to improve efficiency is a common occurrence.
