JPS Suspends In Person Learning Through Thanksgiving Break

(November 3, 2020 4:55 PM) Jackson Public Schools has announced that beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, November 4, 2020, all JPS students and staff will continue their online learning protocols through the Thanksgiving Break. All students and staff will return Monday, November 30th. This change to yesterday’s announcement of suspension until Monday, November 9, 2020, was necessary due to a second positive case within the Middle School at Parkside building.  This staff member was in the building last Friday and was in contact with not only students but staff members as well.  JPS quarantined an additional four staff members and twenty students from both Cohorts A & B at Parkside. 

JPS is certain that there will be additional positive COVID-19 cases and thus the difficult decision to suspend in-person learning through Thanksgiving break was a necessary choice to keep students and staff as safe as possible. 

JPS will continue to monitor the situation and if any additional positive cases occur, JPS will assess the situation and be in touch with families and staff. 

“COVID-19 is on a rapid rise in our county. Not a day goes by that we aren’t hearing of a business closing temporarily for a positive case or by our own friends and family who are receiving the news of close contact or positive results.  If we are ever going to get back to in-person learning, JPS needs the help of our community.  Please practice mask-wearing, social distancing, and handwashing as if you and your family’s life depended on it.  Our community cannot pretend that COVID-19 has gone away because it has not.  This is our community and we need to set the examples and be the change that leads us out of COVID-19.” said Jeff Beal, JPS Superintendent.
