Girls Basketball

Colon 61, Concord 47: The Yellowjackets fell to 16-4 on the season with the road loss. Cece Barrett scored 19 points, Hannah Stimer added 13 points, and Bradie Lehman finished with 11 points for Concord. 

Cascades Championship Grass Lake 53, Columbia Central 27: The Warriors win the Cascades Conference title with the victory at Spring Arbor University. Kate Starkey scored 16 points to lead Grass Lake. 

Cascades Third Place Leslie 40, Hanover-Horton 38: Hanover-Horton fell behind by 12 points in the first half, but had a chance win the game in the final seconds of the game. Maggie Soper scored 13 points, Morgan Kuhl finished with 10 points, and Tracy Ackley finished with eight points for Hanover-Horton. 

Orchard Lake St. Mary’s 45, Lumen Christi 31: The Titans fell in the Catholic League finals at Calihan Hall Saturday. 

Competitive Cheer Regional

Division 4 at Michigan Center: Michigan Center High School finished second (745) and Hanover-Horton third (735) advancing to the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 4 state finals in competitive cheer. It will be the first time for the Comets at the cheer state finals. The top four teams at each regional advance to the finals. Central Michigan University will host the finals next Friday beginning at 2 p.m. 

Bowling

Division 4 at JAX 60: Four Jackson County bowlers finished in the top seven advancing to the MHSAA state Division 4 bowling finals next weekend. Anthony Wetzel finished second (1,093) for Lumen Christi, Joe Davis of Hanover-Horton finished fifth (1,069), East Jackson bowler Adam Delano was sixth (1,055), and Lumen Christi bowler Zachary Kremer was seventh (1,052). Gauge Parshall of East Jackson fell one spot and one pin out of the top seven with 1,051 and Kyle Trajnowski of Vandercook Lake placed 23rd with 975. The Division 4 bowling finals begin next Friday for teams and Saturday for individuals in Muskegon. 

Girls Bowling

Division 4 at JAX 60: Layla Lopez of Lumen Christi Catholic High School finished fifth with 965 for six qualifying game advancing to the MHSAA state bowling finals. Tessa Wyngaert of East Jackson placed ninth (917), Abby Barba of Hanover-Horton was 14th (834), and Mariah Rodriguez of Vandercook Lake placed 15th (832). 

Swimming

Jackson at SEC Final: Jackson High School won the SEC with a total of 511 points at Chelsea. Blake Hetherington won the 100-yard freestyle in 47.58 second and Logan McKinney took first in the 100-yard butterfly (55.49). 

Hockey Regional

D3 Regional Semifinal – Flint Powers 4, Lumen Christi 3: The Titans fell behind 2-0 in the regional semifinal but scored the next three goals in the second period with Jake King scoring a pair and Daniel Brady adding another. Flint Powers would tie the score at 3-all near the end of the second period. Neither team scored in the third period or the first two overtimes sending the contest into a third overtime period. Flint Powers scored in the third overtime period for the win. Lumen Christi ends the season 19-5-1 while Flint Powers (18-7) faces Orchard Lake (17-8-1) in the regional final Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Arctic Arena in Chelsea.

College Athletic Events

Women’s Basketball

Jackson College 62, Schoolcraft 57: Jackson College outscored Schoolcraft 33-27 in the second half to earn the road win. Zoie Bamm scored 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, Kiyla Brooks tallied 12 points, and Kaylona Butler scored 11 points for Jackson (21-4 overall, 9-2 MCCAA). The Jets celebrate Sophomore Night Tuesday at home with a 5:30 tipoff against Macomb Community College. It is the last regular-season game for the Jets. 

St. Francis 74, Spring Arbor 58: The Cougars fell to 13-5 in the Crossroads League with the home loss. St. Francis jumped out to a 24-15 lead in the first quarter of the contest. Alex Long led SAU with 21 points and Alana Nelson added 11 points. Spring Arbor is now 22-6 overall for the season. 

Men’s Basketball

Jackson College 74, Schoolcraft 67: Jackson College jumped out to a 40-22 lead in the first half earning the road win. Savonn Campbell scored 16 points, Xavier Ford-Belton added 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Jo Coleman and Cooper Johnston each scored 10 points for JC. Jackson College is now 12-14 overall, 4-9 in the MCAA. Jackson hosts Macomb Community College for a 7:30 tipoff Tuesday. 

Spring Arbor 93, St. Francis 81:  The Cougars built an 11-point lead in the first half earning the home win. Dante Favor had his best game of the season with 19 points for SAU. Gabe Newhof scored 18 points, Travis Grayson added 15 points, and Trey Cottingham scored a dozen points for SAU (15-13 overall, 8-10 CL). 

Bowling

MCCAA Baker Tournament: The Jackson College women won the MCCAA Baker Tournament on Friday qualifying second. JC defeated Mid Michigan in the final as both team won two games, but Jackson College won by total pin fall. The men’s team finished third behind Mid Michigan and Schoolcraft. Both teams will be bowling in the National Junior College Athletic Association national tournament beginning Thursday.

Baseball

Spring Arbor 5, Georgetown 1: John Hojnowski pitched seven strong innings giving up only four hits and striking out seven batters in the win. Aiden Brunin, Jake Zeeb, and Brennan Moran each had a pair of hits for Spring Arbor (4-6). 

Georgetown 5, Spring Arbor 0: The Cougars could only muster four hits in the contest.
