Girls District Basketball Finals

Division 1 at Holt High School

Holt 42, Northwest 35: The Mounties fell to Holt for a second consecutive year in the district final. Northwest finishes the season with an 18-6 record while Holt advances to the D-1 regional at Mason to face DeWitt in the semifinal round. 

Division 2 at Battle Creek Pennfield High School

Western 56, Marshall 43: The Panthers earned a district title at Battle Creek Pennfield Friday defeating Marshall for the third time this season. Rayah Hitt finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and four steals to lead Western. Aubree Allen scored 12 points and pulled down 12 rebounds and Bayli Stewart added 11 points for Western (15-9). The Panthers advance to the Charlotte regional to face Tecumseh Monday at 5:30 p.m. 

Division 3 at Onsted High School

Columbia Central 55, Onsted 35: The Golden Eagles defeated its rival in the district final at OHS Friday.  CCHS is 15-8 on the season and advances to the Onsted regional facing Blissfield Monday at 7 p.m. The Golden Eagles outscored Onsted 23-2 in the first quarter and never looked back. Hailey Freshcorn scored 21 points and Kolie Brown added 11 points for CCHS. 

 

Division 3 at Ann Arbor Greenhills High School

Ypsilanti Prep 43, Grass Lake 34: Grass Lake High School finishes the season with a 19-5 record and a Cascades Conference title. 

Division 3 at Springport High School

Michigan Center 57, Springport 42: Hailey Mees finished with 19 points to lead Michigan Center. Samantha Wynn and McKynley Gaddy each scored 13 points for MCHS (21-3). The Cardinals travel to the Leslie regional to face Jonesville Monday at 5:30. Springport finishes the season with a 19-4 record and a Big Eight Conference title. Rylie Siefert finished with 14 points to lead SHS. 

Division 4 at Concord High School

Concord 53, Hillsdale Academy 38: Concord won its first district title since 2012 as four players finished in double digits for the Yellowjackets. Bradie Lehman scored 13 points, Cece Barrett added 12 points, Maria Stevens tallied 11 points, and Grace Thorrez finished with 10 points for Concord (19-5). The Yellowjackets face Colon in the regional semifinal Monday at Mendon High School beginning at 5:30 p.m.   

Swimming

Jackson at D-1 State Final at Oakland University (preliminaries): Blake Hetherington qualified for the 50-yard freestyle with a sixth-place finish (21.24) and qualified eighth in the 100-yard freestyle (47.09). The Vikings qualified 11th in the 200-yard freestyle with a team of Hetherington, Logan McKinney, Anthony Kulka, and Colin Moran with a time of 1:28.99. 

Gymnastics

Jackson at State Team Finals (Kenowa Hills): Jackson finished eighth as a team with 138.425. Melody Placeway was second in the D-2 all-around scoring 35.825 and teammate Addi Richmond placed fifth scoring 35.425 with a second-place finish on the floor exercise (9.375). 

College Athletic Events

Baseball

Abraham Baldwin College 12, Jackson College 2: Jared Kramp and Harry Major had the only hits for Jackson College (6-9). 

Softball

Dordt 4, Spring Arbor 3: Grace Lentz had a pair of hits and knocked in two runs for Spring Arbor. 

Jackson College 10, Waynesville JV 9: Ashley Sturgill scored the winning run and knocked in five runs for the day. 

Iowa Lakes 9, Jackson College 8: The Jets split on the day with a pair of one-run games. Karson Fairbanks went 3-for-4 with a home run for Jackson College. She finished with three RBIs on the day and Ashley Sturgill and also knocked in three runs for JC (4-4). 

Bowling

Spring Arbor at Individual Sectionals (Thunderbowl): Anthony Fotis finished 20th for SAU in the men’s division with 1,273 for six games. The top five advance to the next level. Devon Thomas was 32nd in the women’s sectional scoring 1,185.
