Gymnastics
MHSAA Individual finals at Kenowa Hills: Madison Rentfrow of Tecumseh/Columbia Central finished third in the Division 2 floor exercise with a score of 9.275 earning and all-state top-10 medal. Ally Thrun of Jackson Area Gymnastics was 12th in the same event (9.125), teammate Melody Placeway finished 14th in the floor (9.1), and Addi Richmond of JAG was 15th (9.05) in the floor exercise. Richmond tied for eighth in the Division 2 all-around (34.775) earning an all-state top 10 medal. Kara Boyer was the highest finisher for Western with a 31st place finish in the Division 1 floor exercise.
Swimming
Jackson at Division 1 state finals at Oakland University: Blake Hetherington of Jackson finished eighth in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.4 seconds and tied for sixth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 46.79 seconds earning all-state honors. Jackson placed 12th in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:29.44 with Hetherington, Logan McKinney, Anthony Kulka, and Colin Moran. Jackson finished 20th in the state in D-1 for 2023-2024.
College Athletic Events
Women’s Basketball
Jackson College 65, Lansing College 56: The Jets return to the NJCAA National Tournament for the first time since 1978 with the District C win Saturday at Mott Community College. Michelle McGee scored 24 points to lead JC. Trinity Brown finished with 12 points and Dharyauna Pierce added 10 points for Jackson College (25-4). The win avenges a loss earlier in the season to Lansing College. Jackson will wait for the announcement Tuesday on seedings and pairings for the national tournament.
