Baseball

Columbia Central 2, Grass Lake 0: Conor Rentfrow pitched a three hitter for CCHS. Blake Hoskins drove in both runs for the Golden Eagles.

Grass Lake 8, Columbia Central 5: Jacob Collins finished with two hits and two RBIs and Liam Metheringham drove in three runs for the Warriors. Dylan Hammond finished with two hits for CCHS.

Springport 14, Potterville 4: Gibson Overweg drove in four runs with two hits for the Spartans. Springport closed out the game in the fifth inning with five runs.

Springport 11, Potterville 1: Travis Riehle and Bo Lightner each finished with a pair of hits for Springport. Rylin Hale earned the win on the mound for SHA allowing just two hits in the contest.

Softball

Blissfield 1, Columbia Central 0: The Golden Eagles could only muster one hit in the contest. Hailey Wetherby struck out nine batters for CCHS in the contest.

Blissfield 5, Columbia Central 2: Brianna Boone finished with three hits for CCHS in the loss.

Boys Track and Field

Manchester Metrics: Napoleon High School won the boys’ competition scoring 103 points, Columbia Central was second with 66.5, Grass Lake was fifth with 58 points, and Michigan Center finished seventh scoring 56.5. Stockbridge Invitational: A split squad from Western finished third in the event with 80 points, Northwest was fourth scoring 76.5, Springport was fifth with 72, East Jackson placed sixth scoring 68, and Concord was seventh with 47 points. Hudson Cooper of Northwest won the 400-meter dash (51:49), Michael Allen of East Jackson won the 800-meter run (2:02), Eli Dyer of Springport won the 110-meter hurdles (15.91) and the 300-meter hurdles (40.52), Concord won the 400-meter relay (45.12) and the 800-meter relay (1:33), Northwest won the 1,600-meter relay (3:53), A.J Scutt of Western won the shot put (45-8.5) and the discus (148-9), Tucker Wiginton of Springport won the pole vault (13-0), and Mekhi Wingfield won the long jump 20-5.5 for Concord. Saline Golden Triangle:  Western High School finished third overall with 78 points and Jackson was ninth scoring 25. Ahmad Ameen won the 200-meter dash (22.17) and the 400-meter dash (49.79). Edison Lopeman of Western won the 3,200-meter run (9:21), teammate Brennan Faber took first in the shot put (57-8.5), and Josh Veneziano won the high jump (6-6) for Western. Girls Track and Field

Manchester Metrics: Napoleon won the girls’ event (80.5), Grass Lake was second (78), Michigan Center was seventh (40), and Columbia Central was eighth (23). Stockbridge Invitational: Springport finished fourth (60), Western tied for fifth (58), Concord was seventh (56), Northwest placed 11th (38) and East Jackson was 12th (15). Mara Mitchell of Northwest won the high jump (5-0), Kaylee Kopulos of Springport won the discus (110-1), Mariah Kerley of East Jackson took first in the shot put (34-9), Western won the 400-meter relay (53.08), Concord took first place in the 800-meter relay (1:52), and the 1,600-meter relay (4:22), Iymonnie Pace of Springport won the 100-meter hurdles (17.11), Cieara Barrett of Concord won the 400-meter dash (1:04), and teammate Bradie Lehman won the 100-meter dash (12.97). Girls Soccer

Columbia Central 4, Hanover-Horton 0: CCHS secured a solid 4-0 victory over Hanover Horton with Mara Henry scoring three goals and junior captain Allie Choate chipping in one. Kolie Brown made several saves to earn the shutout. “The defense was phenomenal tonight.”  said head coach Andy Hosmer. “It may sound strange to talk about defense in a 4-0 victory but from the pressure by the forwards on Hanover’s backline to the midfield shape and the backline cover we really did an outstanding job tonight against a team that came to play hard against us.” Columbia Central improves to 8-4 on the season and 6-3 in the Cascades Conference while Hanover falls to 4-8 overall and 2-7 in the Cascades.

Michigan Center 6, Grass Lake 1: Lydia Meyer scored a hat trick and McKynley Gaddy, Cecelia Scaife, and Kaleigha Lane each scored one goal for MCHS. It was the first goal of the season for Lane. Abbie Hass made 11 saves in net and Sophia Allen added two assists for Michigan Center.

Boys Golf

Cascades Conference at Clark Lake Golf Course: Columbia Central won the jamboree at home with a four-man total of 362. Leslie was second (365), Hanover-Horton placed third (369), Michigan Center was fourth (376), Grass Lake finished fifth (386), Jonesville and Homer tied for sixth (392), Manchester placed eighth (396), Napoleon was ninth (406), Addison placed 10th (420), East Jackson was 11th (457), and Vandercook Lake was 12th (494). Top 10 individuals were Lucas Schwartz of Addison and Hayden Carter of Columbia Central with 83s, Hoyt Wrona of Hanover-Horton was third with 84, Carter Baker of Jonesville and Bristen Cekander of Hanover-Horton tied for fourth scoring 87s, Kenyon Miller of Homer and Jack Beck of Grass Lake tied for sixth scoring 88s, and Drake Mays of Leslie, Cayne Hays of Michigan Center, and Logan Douglas of Leslie tied for eighth with 90s.

College Athletic Events

Softball

Indiana Wesleyan 14, Spring Arbor 8: Indiana Wesleyan scored seven times in the second and fourth inning to earn the Crossroads League tournament game. Emmalee Hamp had three hits and Elaina Walker knocked in two runs for the Cougars (33-20).

Golf

Jackson College at Ancilla Tournament: The Jets finished third out of eight teams and Marion University – Ancilla. Jackson College shot a season-best 330. Ted Trujillo finished seventh individually with a 78 and Isaac Anuszkiewicz (80) and Michael Klintworth (81) finished just outside the top 10 for JC.
