(January 15, 2022 8:38 PM) A high-scoring line is leading Lumen Christi Catholic High School to a solid season.

Kavin Kennedy, Nash Hanchett, and Josh DuMont have scored 21 of the team’s 32 goals this season. The trio has tallied 26 of the 44 assists for the Titans.

That line is helping to lead the Titans to a 9-3 overall record and 5-1 in the South Central Hockey League – good for first place in the league.

Kennedy has scored 14 goals and dished nine assists.

The Titans are being led by first year Coach Dan Brady.

“Coach is my uncle so that makes it easy to communicate,” Kennedy said. “A lot of the Lumen Christi tradition was carried over as he (Brady) was a player and an assistant coach under Mike Wartella.

“He (Brady) is a little more offensive minded.”

The Titans had a solid season in 2021, but COVID and injuries derailed Lumen Christi in the playoffs.

Kennedy said the Titans have struggled in the playoffs in the past few years.

“I think this year we can make a run in the playoffs,” Kennedy said.

He has yet to decide if college hockey or junior hockey is in his near future.

Kavin – pronounced Cave In – is a family name passed down from his grandfather. Kennedy said his grandfather’s name was supposed to be Kevin, but was misspelled.

“With nine children, they were too poor to change the name on the birth certificate,” Kennedy said. “So, they kept Kavin.”

With his play this season, it appears as if the Titans will keep Kavin and his No. 1 line in the offensive flow the remainder of the season.
