District Football Finals

Division 6

Lumen Christi 49, Ida 28: The Titans won its 11th consecutive district title with the home win Friday over Ida. Lumen Christi advances to host Constantine in the Division 6 regional final Saturday at 1 p.m. Kadale Williams was again the answer for LCCHS with 304 yards rushing and four touchdowns. Timmy Crowley and Isaac Rehberg also scored for the Titans. Williams scored on runs for 57, 27, 62, and 4 yards for Lumen Christi. Rehberg also finished with 10 tackles on the defensive side of the football and Charlie Saunders and Keegan Grandy both recovered fumbles for the Titans (10-1).

Division 7

Leslie 23, University Liggett 21: The Blackhawks advance to the regional final against Monroe St. Mary next week with the win. Leslie quarterback Joel Cranmore finished with 156 passing yards and one touchdown and 115 rushing yards and one score. Evan Dexter also ran for 111 yards and one score and Jayden Colby caught five passes for 58 yards and one touchdown for Leslie. Defensively, Dexter finished with 11 tackles, Tanner Craft added 10 stops, and Braydin Johnson had an interception for Leslie (10-1). It is Leslie’s first district title since going to the state finals in 2008.

Division 8

Reading 30, Springport 29: The Spartans had the ball inside Reading’s 10-yard line but were thwarted in an attempt to win the school’s first district football title. Daniel Dysert ran for 124 yards and one touchdown, Gibson Overweg added 67 rushing yards and 74 passing yards for two scores, and Jake Kregel threw a touchdown pass for Springport. The Spartans finish the season with an 8-3 record and its first playoff win in 14 tries.

Riverview Gabriel Richard 44, Manchester 26: Manchester finishes the season with an 8-3 record after the district final road loss Friday night.

District Volleyball Finals

D-3 at Whitmore Lake

Manchester 3, Grass Lake 2: The Warriors lost 15-13 in the fifth set to close out the season. Mia Buttigieg finished with 35 assists, Ashleigh Simon added 20 kills, and Reese Lape tallied seven kills and four blocks for Grass Lake. Manchester advances to the Lumen Christi regional Tuesday to face Cascades Conference foes Hanover-Horton. Grass Lake finishes the season with a 26-13-3 record.

D-3 at Quincy

Hanover-Horton 3, Hillsdale 0: Morgan Kuhl finished with 11 kills, Molly Soper added 25 assists and 11 kills, and Mollie Barber served six aces for the Comets. Hanover-Horton faces Manchester at 7 p.m. at the Lumen Christi Division 3 regional Tuesday.

College Athletic Events

Women’s Volleyball

Macomb CC 3, Jackson College 2: The Jets finished the season with an 18-9 overall record. Jaden Bates finished with 25 digs, Alivia Smith tallied 33 assists, Gracen Hager collected 14 kills, and Allie Jarchow blocked four shots for Jackson College.

Volleyball District Final D-2

Western 3, Columbia Central 0: Western High School swept CCHS 25-12, 25-17, and 25-18 claiming the district title at Chelsea High School Saturday. The two teams met the first match of the season, but Saturday’s event was a win-or-go-home contest. “We played CCHS in August … but this is a different team right now,” Western Coach JoDee Johnston said. “We finally got everyone in the correct positions (on the court).” Bayli Stewart led Western with 13 kills, Becca Brushaber created 32 assists, and J.J. Lewis led Western in digs. Lydia Sander led CCHS with five kills and Cecelia Slat finished with 14 digs for CCHS (17-16-2). The Panthers (27-13-3) advance to the Division 2 regional semifinal Tuesday at A.A. Gabriel Richard to face Wixom St. Catherine at 7 p.m. The final is scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m. at AAGR.

College Athletic Events

Women’s Basketball

Spring Arbor 85, Midway 80: Alana Nelson led SAU with 40 points and 18 rebounds. Sydney Aunins added 10 points and seven assists for Spring Arbor.

Jackson College at Triton Tournament: The Jets went 2-0 in the tournament winning the championship Saturday with an 84-73 win over Moraine Valley CC on Saturday. Kaylona Butler scored 26 points, Emily Carbajal added 17 points, Michelle McGee added 14 points and six assists, and Kiyla Brooks tallied 11 points for JC. Friday night the Jets defeated Triton College 68-57. Butler finished with 24 points, Zoie Bamm added 18 points and seven rebounds, and Michelle McGee tallied 12 points and dished seven assists, Butler was named as the tournament’s MVP for her efforts. The Jets are off until Nov. 20 when they travel to Delta College for a 5:30 tip.

Men’s Basketball

Spring Arbor 75, Great Lake Christian 57: The Cougars outscored GLC 47-27 in the first half earning a road win. Gabe Newhof scored 24 points and Dante Fabor added 16 points for SAU.

Jackson College 80, Siena Heights Reserves 60: The Jets earned a home win Saturday against the reserve squad from Siena Heights University. Four players scored in double digits for Jackson College as Tareek Galadima scored 16 points, Savon Campbell and Cooper Johnston each scored 13 points, and Cedric Huntley added 10 points for JC (1-1). The Jets travel to Grand Rapids CC Wednesday for a 6 p.m. tipoff.

Men’s Soccer

Spring Arbor 2, Grace College 1: The Cougars march on in the Crossroads League Tournament with another road win Saturday. Aiden Messinger and Josh Madery scored goals for SAU in the victory. Jack Cristini earned the win in goal for SAU with two saves. Spring Arbor is scheduled to play in the CL championship match Wednesday with time and location to be determined.

Women’s Soccer

Spring Arbor 1, Grace 0 (OT): Jocelyn Hendricks scored the golden goal three minutes into overtime for SAU. Reagan Kohler earned the shutout in goal for SAU with four saves. The Cougars will host the Crossroads League championship game Wednesday at 7 p.m.
