Kurzynowski Wins Jackson Senior Golf Open in Second Try

Jackson golfer Mark Kurzynowski said he was nervous stepping up to the first team at Cascades Golf Course for the second round of the Jackson County Senior Golf Open.

Kurzynowski, winner of dozens of tournaments in Jackson, found himself down two strokes heading into the second round.

Two birdies on the first two holes took care of those nerves.

Kurzynowski shot a 3-under-par 69 to win his first Senior County Open by one stroke. He finished with a two-day total of 142 – 2 shots under par.

Todd Marson was one shot back with a 1-under-par 71 on Sunday, Greg Zeller and first-round co-leader Pete Walz tied for third at 145, and the other co-leader Mike Raymond was four shots back for fifth place.

Kurzynowski is competing in his second season in senior events.

“You see a lot of the same guys winning tournaments at the regular events,” Kurzynowski said. “It is tough out here because there are a lot of good golfers over 50.”

He birdied holes No. 1, 2, 10 and 12 and bogeyed No. 11 for his score.

“Birdieing the first two holes settled me down and I got into the flow,” Kurzynowski said.

Steve Davis won the first flight with a two-day total of 148. He shot an even-par 72 on Sunday.

Jerry Fitzpatrick shot a 79 on Sunday to claim the second flight with a two-day total of 165.
