(December 10, 2023 7:30 AM ET) With more than 100 points returning from four key players, the future looks bright for the Lumen Christi Catholic High School hockey team.
The Titans earned another South Central Conference championship last year and finished with an 18-9 record.
Luke Sexton, Daniel Brady, and Jake King return for the Titans in 2023-2024.
Sexton scored 31 points for the Titans a year ago with 14 goals and 17 assists.
Brady finished with 29 points including 20 assists for LCCHS.
King is the leading goal scorer returning for the Titans from a year ago with 17 goals.
“Last year was pretty successful back filling for the loss of Kavin Kennedy,” LCCHS Coach Dan Brady said.
The Titans stuck gold when Zachary Jaakkola joined the team in goal. He finished with a school record seven shutouts and earned 17 wins in 2023-2023. He finished with a stop percentage of .910 in goal for the Titans.
Josh Dumont returns from a year ago – and football this fall 0 after scoring 29 points for the Titans last season.
Other upperclassmen who will help the Titans this season are Isaiah Dinverno, Brodie Gregory, Isaac Rehberg, Sam McCormick, and Logan Decker.
Lumen Christi has a total of 10 sophomores and freshmen on the team – including another Brady in Maden.
The two brothers – Maden and Daniel – played on the same line in a game earlier in the season.
“It is important to teach the younger players the ropes,” player Daniel Brady said. “It is a tight group of friends on and off the ice.”
The Titans have a long winning streak against Jackson United although most of the games have been close in the past few seasons. Last year the Titans defeated JU 2-1 and 4-2.
“The LC/JU game is one that is played on emotions, but you have to keep those emotions in check,” Coach Brady said. “Usually, penalties and power plays dictates who wins that game.”
Sexton agrees saying there “is a lot more pressure in that game compared to other games.”
Jackson United will “host” the game at Optimist Ice Arena on Jan. 19 and JU on Feb. 9. Both teams call Optimist home ice.
The Titans started the season with wins over Kalamazoo United and Eastside.
