Jackson, Michigan — After a convincing 33-0 win, The Titans of Lumen Christi continue their march towards a state championship this Saturday, against Montrose. The Titans are hoping to record a perfect season and a three-peat.

Lumen Christi running back Nick Thomas finished one of the great performances in Jackson area football history last Friday night, as he found his way into the endzone five separate times. Just below freezing temperatures didn’t hamper the running back, as he propelled 11-0 Lumen Christi to its’ third straight regional championship. Now they’ll face off with powerhouse Montrose in the State Semifinal on Saturday.

The Titan’s defense recorded its’ third shutout this season, in a five touchdown win over the Blissfield Royals. Thomas was responsible for every score in the 33-0 win.

Blissfield finishes its’ season 7-5, after a second district championship in as many seasons. The Royals were not a favorite to win in the first, or second round of the playoffs, and have backed in twice in a row. The Royals must relish the underdog role, because they have certainly lived up to it.

The Titans and Rams have played once in program history. On November, 17th in 2000 they squared off. Lumen won big, a final of 41-15. That game was also the semifinal. 2000 and 2001 were the Titans back to back perfect seasons. Something the 11-0 Titans are looking to replicate this season.

Montrose High School came into the year believing it could make some noise in the Michigan high school football playoffs. The Rams started slowly, losing two of their first four games, but they’ve been excellent since being blown out by New Lothrop in Week 4. On Saturday they notched a win over previously unbeaten Hamady in the Division 6 regional championship game.

The Rams wrapped up a 37-6 victory that moved them into state semifinals for the first time since 2013 and will now have to square off with No. 1-ranked, two-time defending state champion Jackson Lumen Christi (11-0) at 1pm in Novi for the first time in 18 years.

The Rams have allowed a total of 12 points in three playoff games and have given up an average of just 7.25 during their winning streak. They haven’t allowed more than one touchdown in any of their last seven games. In 2000 the Rams had only allowed 107 total points on their 12-0 season and were hoping to easily pass by the Titans. They likely will keep their last meeting in mind as they come into this weekend’s contest.

The 11-0 Titans have only allowed 112 points on this season and have been very difficult to run the ball against, The Rams wore Hamady down on the ground. They rushed for 343 of their 375 total yards. It will be a show in the trenches as the offensive line of Montrose works to push Lumen off the ball.

Herb Brogan, the Titans head coach, will look to clinch another Division Six State Semifinal on Saturday at 1pm. This would be the Titan’s third in a row.
