Jackson, Michigan — On Friday, a local powerhouse will host a team that has made its’ way deep into the playoffs after a pair of upsets. The Blissfield Royals will travel North to Jackson, to faceoff with the defending two-time state champ, Lumen Christi. It will be the first recorded meeting between the two programs.

The Titans have had their best season since 2001, racking up a 10-0 record coming into this round of the playoffs. They’ll have a chance at completing the perfect season in the playoffs this year- something they haven’t done since back to back 14-0 seasons in 2000 and 2001.

Last Friday Lumen Christi squared off with the Michigan Center Cardinals and came up with a 41-14 clobbering to seal the Division Six District Title. The Cardinals ended with an excellent 9-2 record on the year.

Blissfield upset a Hillsdale Hornet team that many local media outlets (including our Aspen One Hour crew) picked to win over them, and continued on after that to defeat an excellent Columbia Central team. The Royals seemed to have the Golden Eagle’s number, handing the nine win team their only two losses on the year. Including last week on a last minute score, to win their Division Six District Title 41-40.

The Titans have averaged 37.5 points per game, while only allowing 112 total, good for 11.2 per contest. While the offense of Lumen outpaces the Royals by only nine points per contest, their defense is marginally better, allowing 15.3 points per game less (292 on the season for Blissfield).

These two programs have never met on the gridiron, but do share a common opponent. Blissfield won their second game in what is now a 12 game series against Hillsdale (2-10 all-time). The Titans are 4-0 all-time against the Hornets.

Herb Brogan, the Titans head coach, will look to clinch another Division Six Regional Title on Friday at 7pm at Lumen Christi Catholic High School. This would be the Titan’s third in a row, and advance them to the Division Six Semifinal. In the Division Six Semifinal, the Titans are likely to face Flint Hamady, but could also face Montrose.
