(7-26-2026): It has been a good week for Jackson golfer Steve Maddalena.
He finished third at the Jackson County Open last week at Cascades Golf Course, won the Super Senior GAM event at Fox Hills in Plymouth midweek, and won the Joe Fiero Jackson Senior Open Sunday at Sharp Park with a two-day total of 139.
Tim Pickering finished second in the championship flight at the Fiero with a 1-under-par 70 on Sunday finishing even par for two days, Greg Zeller was third with a total of 144, and John Tarpley was fourth scoring 146.
Maddalena shot an even par 36 on the front nine Sunday with one birdie and one bogey. He was 1-under-par on the back nine with a pair of birdies.
It is his seventh Fiero Senior Title having won in 2011, 2013, 2017, 2020, 2021, 2025, and this year.
“If I am putting well, I will be right there in most tournaments,” Maddalena said after his round.
He hopes his solid play continues this week. Maddalena will attempt to qualify for the U.S. Senior Amateur near Ft. Wayne on Monday.
“It is a really hard course that I like,” Maddalena said. “You don’t have to go super low to qualify.
“Par is a good score on that course.”
Nate LaZebnik won the 60-over flight at the senior tournament with a two-day total of 142 – even par for 36 holes. Michael Mason finished second (153), Jerry Fitzpatrick was third (154), and Ray Hill placed fourth (156). See https://www.golfgenius.com/pages/12535499462526656832 for complete results.
