(August 20, 2020 9:17 AM) The Michigan Center High School girls’ golf team stated its case for being one of the top programs in the Jackson area.

And they made a strong statement.

The Cardinals won the Hanover-Horton Golf Invitational at Cascades Golf Course on Wednesday. They beat the second-place team by nearly 40 strokes.

Michigan Center bested the school record for 18 holes by a team with a score of 365.

“The girls beat the (school) record from last year by 15 strokes,” Coach Cara Brown said.

Despite being young a year ago, the Cardinals finished 15th in the state in Division 4.

On Wednesday at Cascades, junior Kamryn Shannon earned medalist honors for MCHS with an 82. Three other golfers finished in the top 10 as Baylee Carlisle and Sydney Cramer tied for fifth place with 94s. Elly Trefry finished one stroke behind her teammates to take eighth place with a 95. All four scorers for the Cardinals earned medals.

Lumen Christi finished second (401), Western took third place (404), Jackson High was fourth (413), Hanover-Horton finished fifth (420), East Jackson was right behind the Comets (422), followed by Addison, Napoleon, and Northwest.

Ashley Hilderley finished tied for third individually for LCCHS with an 89 and Caitee Webster tied for fifth with a 94.

Syd Redovich of Western was second overall with an 86 and Ayaka Matzen tied for 10th for the Panthers shooting a 98.

Natalie Kulka tied for third individually for Jackson scoring an 89.

Kassidy Alexander finished with an even 100 to lead Hanover-Horton, Sammy Doerr tied for eighth for EJHS shooting a 95, Chloe Daniels finished with a 116 to lead Addison, Callan Borreson of NHS led the Pirates with a score of 129, and Kara Clingerman of NWHS earned a medal with a 10th place finish.
