(November 21, 2020  9:05 PM) The Michigan Department of Corrections is reporting as of 6:30 PM November 20, there are 9,411 confirmed positive COVID-19 cumulative cases at facilities throughout the state, an increase of 2,503 in the past week.  Of that statewide total, 2,063 of the confirmed positive cases are at Jackson facilities.  The number of cases in Jackson facilities increased by 317 in the past week.

Throughout the state corrections system, there are currently 4,690 active cases, an increase of 2,111 in the past week.

In Jackson, there are 510 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases at Parnall Correctional Facility, 619 at Charles E. Egeler Reception and Guidance Center, 130 at Cooper Street Correctional Facility, 22 at Duane Waters Health Center and 782 at G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility. 

Among staff, there are a total of 1,625 COVID-19 positive cases statewide.   In Jackson, there are 86 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases among employees at Parnall Correctional Facility, 19 at Cooper Street Correctional Facility, 95 at Charles E. Egeler Reception and Guidance Center, 61 at G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility, 2 at Jackson Training Center and 4 at Jackson Regional Warehouse.  Among Jackson staff, an increase of 38 in the past week.

There have been a total of 77 deaths (statewide) of prisoners who had tested positive for COVID-19, 22 of those deaths were among prisoners at Jackson facilities. 

Testing continues daily at al facilities. When prisoners are set to parole, discharge or other such movements, they are tested again and are not moved until the test results return.

So far, at least 331,818 total tests have been conducted for MDOC prisoners and staff, which is 5 percent of the total tests conducted of the general public statewide.

The Michigan Department of Corrections is listed as a separate jurisdiction in the daily MDHHS report of positive cases in the state. All other cases are reported by county.  MDOC prisoner cases are not included in the county cumulative numbers or in the numbers reported by the Jackson County Health Department.
