(December 13, 2020 6:15 PM) The Michigan Department of Corrections is reporting as of 4:30 PM December 11, there are 18,285 confirmed positive COVID-19 cumulative cases at facilities throughout the state, an increase of 2,528 in the past week. Of that statewide total, 3,798 of the confirmed positive cases are at Jackson facilities. The number of cases in Jackson facilities increased by 830 in the past week. The number of staff cases increased by 70.
Throughout the state corrections system, there are currently 8,093 active cases.
In Jackson, there are 1,444 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases at Charles E. Egeler Reception and Guidance Center, at 1,026 Cooper Street Correctional Facility, 25 at Duane Waters Health Center, 793 at G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility, and 510 at Parnall Correctional Facility.
Among staff, there are a total of 2,464 COVID-19 positive cases statewide. In Jackson, there are 140 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases among employees at Charles E. Egeler Reception and Guidance Center, 111 at Cooper Street Correctional Facility, 68 at G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility, 4 at Jackson Regional Warehouse, 3 at Jackson Regional Office, 2 at Jackson Training Center and 92 at Parnall Correctional Facility.
There have been a total of 95 deaths (statewide) of prisoners who had tested positive for COVID-19, 23 of those deaths were among prisoners at Jackson facilities.
Testing continues daily at all facilities. When prisoners are set to parole, discharge or other such movements, they are tested again and are not moved until the test results return.
The Michigan Department of Corrections is listed as a separate jurisdiction in the daily MDHHS report of positive cases in the state. All other cases are reported by county. MDOC prisoner cases are not included in the county cumulative numbers or in the numbers reported by the Jackson County Health Department.
