The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will be holding a public meeting on Monday, June 11 regarding proposed improvements on 9 miles of I-94 in Jackson from M-60 to Sargent Road.

During this open house-style meeting, there will be brief presentations at 2 and 6 p.m., followed by question and answer sessions. The public will be able to meet with MDOT staff and ask questions about the construction project. Residents and stakeholders also will have an opportunity to discuss any potential impacts from the project.

The meeting will be held at BlackmanTownship Hall, 1990 West Parnall Road in Jackson.  Hours are 1:30 PM to 7 PM. on Monday, June 11.

Proposed work, scheduled for 2018 and 2019, includes freeway reconstruction and resurfacing, redesigning and rebuilding the I-94/Cooper Street interchange (which includes the addition of new roundabouts on each side of the new bridge and improving interchange ramps over the Grand River), and tree removal and replacement.

MDOT Construction Engineer Samuel Sorensen said the project is currently seeking bids and is slated to begin by the middle of next month.  Due to the extensive work of this project, completion is projected by the end of 2019.

MDOT plans a day and night construction schedule and will have at least one lane of traffic open in each direction at all times.  During the early portion of the project, Cooper Street will be closed completely at I-94 for several months.

Working with the City of Jackson, the Cooper/I-94 interchange will be established as a welcoming gateway to Jackson, with signage and stone wall treatments on and around the new bridge and roundabouts.
