Albion College football quarterback Dominic Bona, swimmer Anna Moore and volleyball libero Monica Shuk were recognized by the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association with Player of the Week awards in their respective sports, Jeremy Strachan, the league’s director of media relations, reported Monday.

 

Bona, a senior from Pinckney, Mich., is the MIAA football Offensive Player of the Week after throwing for a career-high 373 yards and five touchdowns as Albion forged a tie for first place in the league standings with a 49-21 victory at Olivet. He ranks fifth in Division III with 27 touchdown passes, 13th in total offense and 14th with 2,340 passing yards.

 

Bona, who has passed for an all-time school record 8,188 yards, will quarterback the Britons Saturday when they host Alma College in the final regular season home game. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. on the Schmidt-Fraser Field inside Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium.

 

Moore, a first-year swimmer from Battle Creek, Mich., helped Albion achieve dual meet victories over Alma, Carthage (Wis.) College and the Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Institute of Technology. She finished as the runner up in the 100-yard backstroke in the double dual meet against Carthage and Rose-Hulman with an impressive performance of 59.63 seconds. Moore placed first in the 200 freestyle (2:02.76) and 100 butterfly (1:01,25) against Alma, and she was first in the 200 backstroke (2:13.10) and was the leadoff swimmer on the first place 200 medley (28.02 seconds in the backstroke) and 400 freestyle (55.65-second split) relay teams.

 

Albion swimmers begin a challenging stretch Friday when they compete against Carthage, Calvin College and Ohio Northern University in Grand Rapids.

 

Shuk, a first-year student-athlete from Milford, Mich., is volleyball’s Specialty Player of the Week after completing a record-setting season with 77 digs and three aces as the Britons went 2-1 in league matches against Adrian College, Kalamazoo College and Saint Mary’s College. Shuk collected 40 digs against Kalamazoo, a school record for a four-set match. She finished the season with 566 digs, also a school record.

 

Albion finished the volleyball season with 16 victories, the most since the 2009 squad captured 17 victories.
