Last year: 11-2

The Michigan Center High School varsity football team came within one play of going to the Michigan High School Athletic Association state finals in 2021.

The record-setting season saw the Cardinals win district and regional titles in Division 6.

But Michigan Center isn’t going to live off one successful season.

“We have never felt a loss in that way,” assistant Coach Nic Cass said. But we are still here … we are not going anywhere.”

Cass was sitting in for head Coach Troy Allen who was on vacation the week of JTV Media Days.

Key returnees for Michigan Center include Brody Shannon (running back/linebacker), Mitchell Corwin (fullback/linebacker), Carter McCave (running back/linebacker), Lukas Howard (quarterback/defensive back), Kyran Lane (running back/linebacker), Logan Shelton (lineman), and Avery Nahal (running back/defensive back).

“We are prepared for this season despite losing all of those seniors,” Shannon said. “It is our turn to step up and achieve.”

Newcomers who will help the Cardinals include Hunter Clemons (receiver/defensive back), Karter Hall (receiver/defensive back), John Olkowski (lineman), Jordan Krauss (lineman), Ethan Applegate (running back/defensive back), Spencer Berkeypile (receiver/defensive back), Chase Short (lineman), and Parker Graham (lineman).

The Cardinals have close to 90 in the football program with more than 30 at the varsity level and a little more than that at the junior varsity level.

Michigan Center has made the Michigan High School Athletic Association playoffs five of the last six seasons.
