(June 14, 2020 11:06 AM) Saturday evening, 95 local graduates took a well-deserved victory lap around Michigan International Speedway’s 2-mile oval. The Michigan Center High School graduating seniors lined up one by one in their cars to receive their high school diploma on the track’s oval followed by a ceremonial drive across the finish line.

At the ceremony, while being led by the pace car, the graduates – inside their vehicles -paraded onto the two-mile track. Graduates names were announced on the track’s public address system as they crossed the start/finish line.

“During these unprecedented times with large gatherings such as traditional high school graduations in doubt, our facility provides the ability to still hold an event like this in a safe environment,” said Michigan International Speedway President Rick Brenner. “We are honored to host these graduates and their families for this special occasion.”

“Our Michigan Center Seniors have endured many challenges the last few months. To be able to recognize them on a national stage at Michigan International Speedway is an incredible opportunity and a special memory that they will cherish for years to come,” said Michigan Center High School Principal Lisa Falasco. “Thank you, MIS and Congratulations MCHS Class of 2020.”

In accordance with CDC and public health agency standards and protocols, the ceremonies were closed to the public.
