Michigan State Police Jackson Post Commander Lt. Kyle Bowman will deliver the keynote address at the 14th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Diversity Breakfast.  The event will take place 7:30 a.m. on Friday, January 15, 2016 at Gene Davis & Sons (3575 Francis Street).  All are invited to this enlightening community event to celebrate, honor and reflect Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream and to motivate youth for service and excellence.

The host of this event is the MLK Diversity Committee, a collaboration between the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, Jackson County Intermediate School District, Jackson Human Relations Commission and members of the Jackson community.

First Lieutenant Kyle Bowman began his career with the Michigan State Police (MSP) in 1995. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Law Enforcement and a master’s degree in Leadership: Homeland Security from Siena Heights University.  He completed the Homeland Security Executive Leaders and Fusion Leaders Program at the Naval Post Graduate School Center for Homeland Defense in Monterrey.

First Lieutenant Bowman currently serves as the Jackson Post Commander with the Michigan State Police.  He has held this position since September of 2014.  The Jackson Post provides police services in Hillsdale and Jackson Counties.

Prior to taking command at the Jackson Post, he served as the director for the State Fusion Center and Critical Infrastructure Protection unit within the Michigan State Police.  In this role he oversaw and managed the collection/dissemination of the state’s information needs for public safety intelligence, and developed private/public partnerships to enhance the prevention and mitigation of threats to Michigan’s critical infrastructures.

Bullying, teasing, isolation—these occur far too often in our schools and their effects can be devastating and life-changing: low self-esteem, poor grades, truancy, depression, substance abuse, and violence.  The MLK Diversity Committee designed the “Middle School Challenge” to empower students to create a school-wide culture of kindness.  The program draws on the one-day experiential workshop called Challenge Day but goes further.  Designed to engage student participants in activities both before and after Challenge Day, the program promotes collaboration of educators, students, parents, and community agencies in a focused effort to improve the social climate of area middle schools.

The proceeds from this breakfast will help fund the 2016 Challenge Day program. We will host 6 days in November 2016. The cost to send one student to Challenge Day is $55.Visit www.JacksonMiddleSchoolChallenge.com or www.ChallengeDay.org for more information.

Lt. Bowman will be a guest on The Bart Hawley Show Tuesday, December 29th at 1pm.
