(August 9, 2022 3:42 PM) Local high school basketball coaches Chad Mortimer and Gary Hull will be inducted into the Michigan High School Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan Hall of Fame on Oct. 2.
Mortimer recorded 453 wins in 23 seasons with the Comets for a winning percentage of .822. During his time as head coach, Hanover-Horton won 14 Cascades Conference titles, 18 district titles, and nine regional titles.
The Comets advanced to the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 state semifinals in Mortimer’s last season in 2021.
Hull served as an assistant coach under Mortimer at Hanover-Horton.
Joining Mortimer as Hall of Fame head coaches are Mark Gainforth (Unionville-Sebewaing), Bruce Koopman (McBain), and Mark White (with five coaching positions).
The Hall of Fame ceremony will be held Sunday, Oct. 2, at Oakland University.
