(February 17, 2023 2:34 PM) A total of 49 Jackson County wrestlers will be vying for state individual spots at regional competitions on Saturday.
One of the individual regionals with the biggest representation of local athletes will be at Northwest in Division 2.
Wrestlers from the Harper Creek and Jackson district tournaments will be looking for state berths in each weight class.
The top four wrestlers in each weight class earn spots in the state finals at Ford Field beginning on March 3.
Here is a list of qualifiers from the district tournaments:
Division 2 from Battle Creek Harper Creek district: Regional individual qualifiers include Alexander Trudell, Western, second place at 175 pounds; Quinn Ferris, Western, fourth place at 126 pounds; and Kaden Engelter, Western, third place at 113 pounds. Harper Creek and Jackson district qualifiers will wrestle in the Northwest individual regional on Saturday.
Division 2 from Jackson district: Regional individual qualifiers include Gavin Beach, Northwest, third place at 150 pounds; Zach Jacobs, Northwest, champion at 157 pounds; Braden Gariety, Northwest, first place at 165 pounds; James Nurkka, Northwest, third place at 165 pounds; Adam Haselius, Northwest, first place at 215 pounds; Malik Monroe, Jackson, fourth place at 215 pounds; Kyle Bonner, Jackson, champion at 285 pounds; Thomas Fall, Northwest, third place at 106 pounds; Cameron Beach, Northwest, first place at 113 pounds; Trevor Morehouse, Jackson, third place at 113 pounds; Kayden Beach, Northwest, third place at 120 pounds; Jeff Miller, Northwest, third place at 126 pounds; Caden Bayer, Jackson, third place at 132; Blaine Anspaugh, Northwest, fourth place at 132 pounds; and Gage Race, Northwest, finished second at 138 pounds.
Division 3 from Williamston district: Regional individual qualifiers include Mason Roth, Napoleon, second place at 157 pounds; Bart Laretz, Napoleon, champion at 175 pounds; Brady Warner, Napoleon, fourth place at 175 pounds; Dallas Smith, Napoleon, second place at 215 pounds; Christian Millican, Columbia Central, second place at 113 pounds; Aiden Bocanegra, Napoleon, fourth place at 113 pounds; Brenden Yob, Napoleon, second place at 120 pounds; and Hunter Czubachowski, Columbia Central, fourth place at 138 pounds. These qualifiers will wrestle at Adrian Madison individual regional on Saturday.
Division 4 from Leslie district: Regional individual qualifiers include Reid Garcia, Lumen Christi, second at 144 pounds; Josh Frailey, Hanover-Horton, third place at 150 pounds; Clayton Clark, East Jackson, second at 157 pounds; Owen Zink, Lumen Christi, fourth place at 157 pounds; Colton Raffensburger, East Jackson, second place at 165 pounds; Gaven Teller, Hanover-Horton, third place at 190 pounds; Hayden Rhinehart, Lumen Christi, fourth place at 190 pounds; Roberto Mireles, East Jackson, second place at 106 pounds; Stephen Hertzfeld, East Jackson, third place at 113 pounds; A.J. Fielder, Hanover-Horton, first place at 120 pounds; Julius Farrell, East Jackson, fourth place at 120 pounds; David Fielder, Hanover-Horton, champion at 126 pounds; and Tobin Okoniewski, Lumen Christi, fourth place at 132 pounds. Wrestlers from the Leslie and Manchester districts will wrestle at Hudson individual regional on Saturday.
Division 4 from Manchester district: Regional individual qualifiers include Luke Guthrie, Grass Lake, champion at 144 pounds; Jack Reid, Grass Lake, first place at 190 pounds; and Wesley Edie, Grass Lake, first place at 120 pounds.
Division 4 from Bronson district: Regional individual qualifiers include Rylinn Hale, Springport, third place at 150 pounds; Caleb Wendt, Springport, fourth place at 157 pounds; Nate Fritz, Concord, third place at 106 pounds; Owen Thomas, Springport, fourth place at 113 pounds; Trenton Hamilton, Springport, second at 120 pounds; David Becker, Springport, second at 126 pounds; and Collin Thompson, Concord, third place at 138 pounds. These wrestlers will compete at the Mendon individual regional on Saturday.
No times were noted on the MHSAA or Trackwrestling sites. Regionals generally start at 9 or 9:30 a.m. at the locations posted above.
