(July 21, 2021 11:02 AM) A new schedule will be in place when the 96th edition of the City Championship golf tournament is played August 13 to 21 at Cascades Golf Course.

Entries are now being accepted for the tournament, which will for the first time begin with a qualifying round on a Friday. Tee times for the qualifying round will start at noon on Aug. 13. The first two rounds of matches will then be played over the weekend. The quarterfinals can be played any time until Aug. 19, with the semifinals set for Aug. 20 and the 36-hole championship match the next day.

Entry fee for the tournament is $120, or $75 for high school students. Players who do not qualify for match play will receive a gift certificate for an additional 18-hole round at Cascades.

In addition to all Jackson County residents being eligible, the tournament is open those living outside the county if they meet one of three criteria: They graduated from a Jackson County high school or college; previously played in a Jackson Masters or City Championship; or are employed in the county. There is no longer a handicap limit.

Entry forms are available at the Country Club of Jackson, Cascades, Sharp Park, and Arbor Hills pro shops, and registration can be made on-line at jacksongolf.net. Entry deadline is Aug. 10 at 5 p.m.
