(January 28, 2022 5:03 PM) Northwest Community Schools has named Stafford Newsome as the new varsity head football coach.
Coach Newsome is no stranger to Mountie Nation as he has taught social studies at Northwest High School since 2010.
During his tenure he has been involved in coaching football and boys basketball. His latest coaching stop was with the Napoleon Pirates. Newsome has been a varsity offensive coordinator, junior varsity coach, and defensive coordinator.
Newsome has always been very active in Mountie Athletics, volunteering for various duties to support Mountie Nation teams.
Coach Newsome is a big believer in having a family atmosphere for the program. This includes the players, parents, students, administrators, and coaches.
His biggest supporters come right from home with his wife Lisa and their five children – Stafford, Sullivan, Stella, Sanderson, and Sloan.
He will be holding a parent meeting on Jan. 31 at 6:30 p.m. in the NWHS cafetorium for the parents of any 8th-11th grade students who is interested in football for the 2022-2023 school year.
Newsome will hold another parent meeting on Sunday, Feb. 6, at 3 p.m. in case any parent is unable to attend Monday. The same information will be presented at both meetings.
NWHS will be holding a Madden Tournament for players in the cafeteria from 3 to 7 p.m. on Feb. 6.
Newsome replaces Adam Grybauskas who won five games in four seasons as the head coach of the Mounties.
