(9-29-2026): Physical play in a crosstown rivalry resulted in a draw on Northwest Soccer’s senior night on Tuesday at home.

The Western Panthers started the game in control for the first 10 minutes of the game, but the Northwest Mounties flipped the script. For the remaining 30 of the half, they controlled the pitch. A corner kick led to multiple header opportunities, but it ended up being the senior connection of Evan Conant scoring off a Silas Shepard assist that gave the Mounties the 1-0 lead. The Northwest seniors had their moment early in the half, but a pair of juniors extended the Mountie lead late. Chase Wyers faked out the goalkeeper, leaving an open net for Jaxen Mezo to double the lead; 2-0.

Western was down two goals at half, but responded and erased the deficit in the second. The Panthers out-shot the Mounties six to two in the first 14 minutes of the half, and on the scored on the seventh cutting the deficit to one. Samuel Heydenburg sent a low cross from left to right across the goal finding Lincoln Warner who sent it to the back-left of the net. With 26:54 remaining in the game, Western trailed 2-1.

Just over 10 minutes later, Heydenburg got a goal for himself. He took the ball, crossed up the goalie and let the ball just roll into the net to even the game at two with 15:05 left.

Five more shots were taken in the game and none found the back of the net. The resurgence of the Panthers prevented the Mounties from having a victory on senior night. The crosstown conference showdown ended in a 2-2 draw.

There were four goal scorers in the game. Northwest’s Evan Conant and Jaxen Mezo found the back of the net, assisted by Silas Sheperd and Chase Wyers. The Panthers had Lincoln Warner and Samuel Heydenburg, who also had an assist.

Mountie goalkeeper, Connor Stoyk, had a perfect first half with 7 saves and finished the game with a total of 10.

The Panthers had 10 corners compared to the two of the Mounties, but the physical play of Western gave Northwest 10 free kicks compared to their four.

On Thursday (10/1) Northwest will be heading to Battle Creek taking on Pennfield at 6pm and Western will be at home to battle Harper Creek at 6:30pm.
