(3-21-2026, 7:20PM): After a back and forth high scoring third quarter, Pewamo-Westphalia scored just two points in the fourth quarter. Lumen Christi would outscore 18-2

The first half was a tale of two quarters for the scoring column. After the Titans had a 12-8 lead, PW scored five points in the last two minutes to cut it to just a 15-13 LC lead after one.

It became the tale of two quarters as hardly any scoring was had to begin the second quarter. The Pirates evened it up at 15 apiece with 4:50 left in the first half thanks to two free throws from Elly Bengel. A 3-pointer from Bengel would cut the Titans lead to just one (19-18), but a tough shot inside by LC star Kenna Hunt would make it a 21-18 Titans lead at the halftime break.

The scoring would once again pick up in the third quarter, with both teams trading threes with lots of physicality. PW took their first lead of the game with just under five minutes in the third, thanks to a 3-pointer from Elly Bengel to make it 27-25 PW. Five points from Lucy Wrozek off a 3-ball followed by a steal and score helped LC take a 33-27 lead. Four points from PW’s Elyse Thelen helped tie the game at 34 apiece after the third quarter.

After missing a few shots earlier, a Kenna Hunt 3-pointer gave LC a 37-34 lead and were off from there. Pewamo-Westphalia would score just two points in the fourth quarter. Lumen Christi knocked off PW 52-36 to win the 2026 MHSAA Division 3 Girls Basketball state championship, the first GBB title in Lumen Christi HS history.

This state title makes it the 59th state championship in school history across all sports. Kenna Hunt led all scorers with 21 points and 10 rebounds for LC, Lucy Wrozek added 14 points and the Titans committed just five turnovers. Elly Bengel led Pewamo-Westphalia with 12 points.

The win also marks the 5th championship for Coach Scott Stine, winning four at Ypsilanti Arbor Prep including the last two straight, the Titans finish the season at 24-3 overall.
