(8-11-2024, 12:00PM): Concord High School football enjoyed a record-setting season in 2023 with numerous school records.

But the Yellowjackets say they are “ahead of last season” heading into August.

Concord finished 6-3 in 8-man football just missing the playoffs.

Junior Gavin Riske nearly rewrote the school record book for passing in 2023. As a sophomore he threw for 2,611 yards, distributing eight touchdowns in one game, and holds the career record for touchdown passes with 38 – despite having two more seasons.

He was all-state as a sophomore quarterback for Concord.

“We feel like we are reloading … not rebuilding,” Coach Max Clark said. “I am taking over the defensive side of the football and Gavin Wisel will be taking over the offense.”

Last year Wisel helped Clark install a “major part” of the record-setting Concord offense.

The Yellowjackets lost 11 seniors and are training an entire new offensive and defensive lines.

Riske is the center of attention on the offensive side of the football.

“We look to do the same things as last year … maybe more,” Riske said. “We are further ahead on the offensive side of the football.”

Other key returnees for Concord include Jordan Medellin (WR/DB), Tylend Allen (RB/LB), Alex Smith (WR/LB), and Isaiah Krieger (OL/DL).

Medellin was a first-team all-conference performer for the Yellowjackets in 2024.

Other players expected to make major contributions for Concord in 2024 are seniors Mason Davis (OL/DL), Alek Warner (WR/DB), and juniors Christian Castro (OL/DL), Tyler Rundle (WR/DB/LB), Trenton Frazer (RB/LB), Jermaine Green (OL/DL), and Nathan Fritz (WR/DB).

Concord expects to unleash its Air Raid offense in a new 8-man division that includes Lenawee Chrisitan, Pittsford, Britton-Deerfield, and Morenci.

“We are joining a new conference (SCAA) and I believe that the division title will come down to us, Lenawee Christian, and Pittsford,” Clark said.
