Risner Leads After Round One of High School Tournament

(June 4, 2020 9:04 PM) Leslie High School golfer Cannon Risner did not have a chance to compete in his junior season of high school golf this past spring.

He may be taking it out on the competition at The Grand/Calderone High School Golf Tournament on Thursday.

All spring sports were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in April. The tournament was the idea of managers at both golf courses, giving high school students a chance to compete against one another.

Risner shot a 3-under-par 69 at The Grande Golf Club in Jackson on Thursday.

He helped lead the Blackhawks to a 10th-place finish at the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 finals in 2019.

Spring Arbor University signee Noah Abbey from Onsted High School shot an even-par 72, Napoleon High School player Evan Brzyski shot 76, and Brett Casto and Hunter West shot 77s.

The tournament continues Friday at Calderone Golf Club with the top three teeing off at 10:10 a.m.
