June 15, 2024 8:28 PM ET) Youth prevailed during the qualifying for the annual Lyle Ambs Memorial Golf Tournament at Sharp Park Golf Course.

College players Cannon Risner – from Ferris State University – and Brett Casto – a Spring Arbor University golfer – were two of the top qualifiers for the annual event.

Risner shot a 5-under-par 66 and Casto finished with a 2-under-par 69.

The top 15 qualifiers and defending champion John Tarpley are in the championship flight in the tournament. Andy Horodecki, Colin Norton, and Andrew Boldt tied for 15th with Norton winning a three-way playoff with a birdie on the first hole.

The remainder of the 24 players will be flighted for the two-day tournament.

Scott Denig also shot a 2-under-par 69 and Zach DeFrain finished with a 1-under-par 70 during qualifying Saturday.

Risner won the championship in 2022 and Denig was crowned the Lyle Ambs champion in 2021.

Six golfers finished with even par 71s during qualifying today.

Match play begins next Saturday with two rounds and two rounds on Sunday.
