(May 14, 2022 4:44 PM) David Schmidt of the Marine Corps League Southern Zone said more than 1,100 flags were posted by the graves of veterans at Mount Evergreen Cemetery in Jackson on Saturday.
Members of the Marine Corps League State of Michigan Southern Zone and Vietnam Veterans of America Jackson Chapter 109 helped place the flags.
They used specially designed sticks to make the hole for the flags which are placed next to the graves.
Schmidt said the location of the veteran’s graves is “local knowledge” as a fire burned the maps necessary to locate the graves.
He said locating all of the veteran’s flags in the cemetery would be a great Eagle Scout project or student leadership activity.
