Sydney Shafer continues to impress, coaches, fans, athletes and media with her work on the court. JTV was on hand for her performance last week against Lumen Christi’s varsity team. After her work on the hardwood last season, she was named a unanimous Class B first-team all-state selection by the Associated Press. It wasn’t long after she became a Division 1 basketball player. On July 15th, Shafer announced that she will be continuing her career as a collegiate athlete at Western Michigan. Just 1% of the 550,000 kids that play high school basketball this year will have the chance to play for a Division One NCAA program. This means around 10 in 1,000 will play at the next level (according to NCAA statistics).
