65th District State Representative Mike Shirkey urged a “yes” vote on Michigan Proposal 1 on Tuesday’s election ballot.  According to Shirkey, Proposal 1 eliminates the personal property tax for many businesses without a tax increase on Michigan residents, and guarantees that municipalities will have a revenue source to replace that tax.   The ballot proposal authorizes a new statewide authority to receive a share of the existing state use tax, which is primarily a business tax paid on out-of-state purchases and things like hotel and motel rooms, cars and telecommunication services. This change, which must be approved by voters, would not increase taxes.  Shirkey concedes the ballot language is confusing and voters should take the time to understand the proposal.  Other guests:  Candidate for 65th District State Representative Robert Sutherby;  Monica Moser, CEO and President, Jackson Community Foundation;   BuilderWalk with Andy Woell, General Materials;  John Wilson, Candidate for County Commission;  Leslie Youngdahl, Consumers Energy & Anchor Initiative;  Amy Thomson, Marketing Director, McDonald’s;  Brian Surgener, Jackson Coffee Company, Drawings of the Month.
