Skog’s 5-TDs Propel Pirates to Win over Warriors

(9-3-2026): Napoleon blows out Grass Lake in Week 2 to open up play in the Cascades Conference.

The Pirates started out strong in their first road game of the season, only needing three plays to score on the first drive, including an Ashton Warner 32-yard rush and a Carson Warner 16-yard rushing touchdown. The Pirate defense quickly got the ball back for their offense, Carson Warner strip-sacked Kaline Wescott on only the third Warrior snap; Marcello Flores recovered on the Warrior 14-yard line. Zavior Skog scored in two rushes from the 14 and scored the two-point conversion to extend the lead to 14-0.

The Warriors responded with sophomore quarterback Wesley Reul throwing a screen pass to Gage Salts for 38 yards that led to a 20 yard touchdown reception on a flip pass to Arynn Hensen, sophomore quarterback to sophomore running back. Reul converted the two-point try on a pass to Wescott, who got injured on the play and was out the remainder of the game. The Warriors bring the game within six; Pirates led 14-8.

Napoleon’s offense started on their own 48 and gashed the Warrior offense with seven runs that ended with Richie Crane in the end zone. After a false start, Marcello Flores scored a seven yard two-point conversion for a 22-8 Pirate lead. On the first play that followed a Warriors three-and-out, Skog took the handoff up the middle for an 84 yard touchdown. On the only Pirate pass of the game, Isaac Caroffino found Carson Warner to convert the two-point try; Napoleon up 30-8 with 2:28 left in the first quarter.

After a couple short Warrior gains and penalties on each side, Grass Lake faced fourth and five from the Pirate 49-yard line to open up the second quarter. Reul took the snap and found Will Ford past the sticks and he turned a first down into a 49 yard catch and run touchdown; 30-14, Pirates.

Similar to the previous Pirate possession, Skog took the first handoff and broke off another long touchdown run, this time for 63 yards. Subsequent to another Warrior three-and-out led to yet another explosive 44 yard Skog run, only being stopped from scoring by a shoelace tackle. Flores finished off the drive with a nine yard rushing touchdown. Pirates up 42-14 with 9:39 remaining in the half.

The Warriors were finally able to get a defensive stop via a fumbled snap recovered by Will Ford at their own 26. In the following drive Reul rushed for nine yards and was five of seven for 85 passing yards including a 26 yard touchdown pass to Braden Snyr on third and goal from the 26. Snyr also caught the two-point conversion pass. The Warriors gained 104 yards on their final drive of the half, Reul accounted for 94. The Pirates entered Halftime up 20; 42-22.

Napoleon held the Warriors scoreless in the second half, but they did not stop scoring. The Pirates blocked a punt and Rylan Lovett recovered the ball in the end zone for a touchdown and Zavior Skog scored two more rushing touchdowns from 11 and 23 yards out for a final score of 62-22 to start the Pirates season off 2-0. In the two games thus far, Napoleon has put up a total of 108 points.

Napoleon rushed for a total 527 yards, 203 of which came in the first quarter. Zavior Skog rushed for 282 yards and five touchdowns in 11 attempts, averaging 25.6 yards per rush.

Warrior quarterback Wesley Reul threw for 267 yards and 3 touchdowns.

The undefeated Pirates will face a 2-0 Jonesville team on 9/11 for the first game on the Comets new field, while the 0-2 Warriors head to Columbia Central to take on the Golden Eagles (2-0); both games will be played at 7pm.
