(May 27, 2022 3:05 PM) The City of Jackson today announced two construction projects will begin soon.
South Elm Street
One block of a busy Jackson street is closing to traffic for sewer construction. S. Elm Avenue between E. Michigan Avenue and TenEyck Street will be closed by the City of Jackson from Wednesday, June 1 to Friday, June 3 for crews to complete the installation of a storm sewer for the redevelopment of a nearby property. S. Elm Avenue is a major thoroughfare on the east side of Jackson. Because this is a short closure period, a detour route will not be provided. However, since this is a high traffic area, local drivers should be prepared for the closure. Road closure signs will be installed well in advance of the shut down on Elm Avenue at Page, Plymouth, Ganson and North streets so drivers know to seek alternate routes.
Greenwood Avenue
Greenwood Avenue reconstruction is scheduled to commence on or about Monday, June 6, 2022.
The primary purpose of the project is to remove the surface of the pavement with a mill and then repave the street with a single layer of new hot mix asphalt. The project will also include sidewalk ramp upgrades, sidewalk repairs and sidewalk infill between Griswold and Third Street. The project also includes the replacement of the traffic signal at the intersection of Greenwood and Griswold.
During construction, driveways will remain accessible at most times throughout the construction period. The exceptions will be when construction tasks such as milling, concrete placement or paving is being performed directly in front of a driveway. If concrete for sidewalk repairs or sidewalk construction is placed across a driveway, that driveway will remain closed for approximately a week to give the concrete time enough to properly cure and gain strength.
The street work is scheduled to be completed in-mid August.
