SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Spring Arbor University head men’s tennis coach Terry Darling made a splash with his first signee for the 2016 season, inking local standout Patrick Doerr from Lumen Christi Catholic High School.

“For the past several years I have had the privilege of watching Patrick mature as a person, and as a tennis player, and we are thrilled to have him join our team,” said Darling. “He is a talented player and an exceptional athlete and we believe that he will make an immediate impact on our program.”

Doerr, a two-time Division 4 First Team All-State selection, led the Titans to four straight appearances in the state finals, finishing tied for 11th in both his junior and senior seasons. He racked up 59 career wins against just 20 losses and earned All-Conference honors three consecutive years.

As a junior, Doerr was named the Citizen Patriot Tennis Player of the Year after finishing the campaign with a remarkable 27-2 record and dropping just five sets all season long playing at No. 2 singles. Doerr made the move to No. 1 singles his senior season, and won his first match in the Division 4 state finals before being eliminated in the second round.

In addition to his ability on the court, Doerr has also excelled in the classroom. He is a four-time Academic All-Conference award winner and is a member of the National Honor Society.
