Spring Arbor University has announced the newest addition to SAU Athletics—a Clay Target team. Erik Jacobson has been selected as the head coach and will lead the program into its inaugural season, which will officially begin fall of 2020.
The co-ed Clay Target program will practice at the Jackson County Sportsman Club in Jackson, Michigan.
Jacobson, a Spring Arbor University alumnus, brings a wealth of coaching experience and extensive knowledge to the position. For the last five years, he has been coaching a unified Jackson County team, the Jackson County Sportsman Club Clay Target Team. In addition to his duties with his clay target team, Jacobson has coached high school girls’ golf for 10 years and baseball for seven years at Vandercook Lake High School in Jackson, Michigan.
Jacobson graduated with a degree in chemistry from Spring Arbor in 2006, and completed his master’s degree in education from SAU in 2015. He has taught science at Vandercook Lake High School for the last 13 years.
The addition of the Clay Target program increases the number of athletic offerings at SAU to 22. Spring Arbor most recently added Competitive Cheer & Dance in 2018-19 and men’s and women’s bowling in 2015-16.
Recruiting will begin immediately and interested participants should contact Erik Jacobson at erik.jacobson@arbor.edu or visit saucougars.com/recruits and complete the Prospective Athlete Questionnaire, specifying Clay Target as the interested sport.
