LANSING, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University women’s basketball team got back on track with two non-conference road wins over the last three days. The Cougars completed the season sweep of Rochester College with a 74-60 victory on Saturday and followed it up with a 88-33 triumph over Great Lakes Christian College on Monday night.
The Cougars trailed by as many seven in the second quarter, but sophomore Rachel Nelson fueled an 11-0 run over the final 3:06 of the period to give SAU a 30-26 lead at halftime. Five Cougars finished in double figures, led by Townsley with 18 points, five rebounds and four steals. Aimee Konkel, chipped in 13 points, continues to approach the program’s career three-point record. She knocked down three more triples to give her 191, just four shy of the all-time mark. Rachel Driesenga registered her third double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Meanwhile, Goggin added 11 points and Nelson finished with 10.
Spring Arbor will return home to take on Indiana University-South Bend on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 1 p.m. The Cougars will then travel west for the Arizona Christian University Classic in Phoenix, Arizona on Dec. 28-29.
