Springport Looks to Build Off Historic 2025 Season With New Faces

(8-6-2026, 4:00PM): After a perfect regular season and their first district title in program history, the Springport Spartans look to continue that momentum in 2026 but will come with some new names on the field.

Springport finished 11-1 last season, finishing the regular season at a perfect 9-0, and defeating New Lothrop to win its first district title before falling to eventual D8 runner-up Hudson in the regional final. Spartan fans can expect a different kind of style on offense and new names in this 2026 campaign.

Head Coach Ben Pack returns for his third year at the helm. Pack led the program at Manchester HS prior to moving over to Springport. Pack has led this program to new heights the last two years after the program had previously not made the playoffs since 2018, excluding the shortened 2020 season.

AJ Sprague is the Spartans’ defensive coordinator, while Pack calls the offense. Mike Curtis serves as the offensive line coach. Ben Pack says Curtis works daily side by side with him improving the program. “His knowledge and growth in the past two seasons has been extraordinary. He studies and recommends. He is definitely one of the top assistants I have ever had on any staff” says Pack.

Key players for Springport this season include seniors Jake Kregel (WR/DB), Tucker Wiginton (WR/DB/P), Kolton Woyame (RB/LB), Colby Casler (DB), Jacob Kubiak (OL), and Dallas Patterson (DL). Juniors on the team include Andrew Kregel (TE/DE), Easton Merrill (RB/DB), and Kolt Obert (OL). Jake Kregel was all-region as a sophomore and was also the Big 8 conference MVP in basketball this past winter. Wiginton was also an all-region player last year.

Skill players and positions are a key strength for Springport this season. Meanwhile, they bring in a new QB, new offensive line additions, and two new players on both the defensive line and at DB. The Spartans look to leadership from the seniors and skill players to help continue to build momentum from the last two seasons.
