Jackson Business & Professional Women’s Organization (BPW) has announced Stefanie Riggs as this year’s Nike Award recipient. Each year this award is presented at the February Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce Economic luncheon.
The Jackson BPW presents the Nike Award to a woman who exemplifies the quality the Nike represents – progress, strength, freedom, and triumphs. The award is given to a woman owned business that is making a significant impact in the community. The Nike of Samothrace is known as the Goddess of Victory – confident in her power, and secure in her strength. This prestigious award is part of the official emblem of Business & Professional Women’s organization. The group meets every second and fourth Tuesday of the month at Cascades Manor House at noon and is open to anyone interested in attending and joining.
In June of 2015 Stefanie founded Jackson Area Collaborative Kids Source – J.A.C.K.S., a family resource guide that is available free throughout the county and goes home from school with many area elementary school children.
This new tabloid style guide features articles on topics that will help strengthen awareness of the Jackson community as well as on various topics of interest. Area businesses are encouraged to submit articles and photos for publication that feature their company or organization. There is no fee for article submission and paid advertising is available.
Stefanie is the director of Marketing & Public Relations for Lloyd Ganton Retirement Centers. She is also the 2014 Athena recipient, has been awarded the Harriet A. Myer Award, Person of Achievement Award, and the Susan B. Anthony Award. She is immediate past president of Jackson BPW, a founding member and executive board member of Women’s Leadership Council of Jackson United Way, Kiwanis of Jackson member. Vice President of the Jackson Symphony Guild, Jackson Symphony Board member, Alzheimer’s Association board member, past president of the Jackson County Rose Festival board of directors and has sat on the Friend of the Court Advisory Board.
The newspaper is managed by her daughter Morgan Riggs. Morgan is a sophomore at Western High School. As an accelerated student Morgan wanted a job but could not fit a traditional job into her schedule. Stefanie having been the graphic artist for a previous family resource guide – Kids In Common, decided to launch a new guide and have Morgan run it.
