(March 9, 2023 9:32 PM ET) To say that E.J. Tackett is on top of the bowling world may be an understatement.
Tackett won his third PBA title of the season with a win in the finals of the PBA David Small’s Jackson Classic at JAX 60 on Thursday.
He has won three of the five tournaments played this season on the PBA Tour.
Tackett defeated Anthony Simonsen in the finals 277-199.
Simonsen won the last PBA event and was looking for back-to-back wins.
“Anthony is unbelievable good and one of the most talented bowlers on the Tour,” Tackett said after the win. “It takes games like this to beat him.”
Tackett threw all but one strike in the championship match. A nine-pin in the sixth frame prevented him from winning a $25,000 bonus for rolling a 300 game in the championship match.
Tackett teased JAX 60 owner David Small for a redo on the sixth frame.
Shawn Maldonado started the stepladder portion of the tournament with 11 consecutive strikes. He rolled an 8-ball on his final throw to defeat Tommy Jones 298-192.
Two splits by Maldonado in the next round against Tackett spelled doom for him. Tackett rolled nine strikes in winning 247-190 in the second match.
Two splits by Simonsen in the finals derailed his chance to win after being in the No. 1 seed in the tournament.
Tackett won $25,000 in prize money for the win and Simonsen finished with $15,000.
